Benefits of Mindfulness

zen mindfulness stonesMindfulness allows you to relate to and deal directly with whatever is happening in your life. Instead of struggling to escape, suppress or avoid distressing thoughts and feelings, mindfulness helps you manage whatever is going on without becoming overwhelmed.

When you start being more mindful and start living in the present moment, you'll experience your life more fully, and become more in touch with yourself, who you are, what is important to you, and what you want out of life.

In addition to helping you learn to deal effectively with the worries, negative thoughts, painful emotions and distressing physical sensations that contribute to issues such as depression, anxiety, panic, stress and low self-esteem, some of the other benefits associated with mindfulness include:
  • Increased ability to relax and improved sleep
  • Enhanced sense of well-being
  • Greater energy and enthusiasm for life
  • Improved concentration and problem solving
  • Greater satisfaction in personal relationships
  • Becoming less judgmental and treating others with greater acceptance
  • Decreases in medical symptoms such as chronic pain and high blood pressure and improved immune function and resilience

Mindfulness also teaches you to pay attention to the world around you, allowing you to completely engage with whatever you're experiencing on a moment-to-moment basis, notice more, and appreciate the little things in life. This awareness of the present moment can lead to times of great peace, joy and intimacy as you participate more fully in your life and your experiences.
